Dear Commissioner Halloran:
I am writing to you regarding Wellington Park on Kilburn Road in West Newton. As you are probably aware, the slide in the park broke and was removed on December 7, 1998. I am concerned that it will not be replaced. Although our little park is among the most run down and neglected parks in Newton it serves the community in many ways.
It always gives me great pleasure when I pass by the park or use it as a walk through from Princess Road to Kilburn Road to see it being used in so many diverse ways. You may see young children on the playground equipment. Often I see parents with babies in strollers sitting on the benches chatting with other neighbors. Children and adults of all ages are frequently enjoying a quick game of pickup on the basketball court. Children enjoy riding their bicycles on the old tennis court. I have seen groups of young soccer players practicing on a Sunday afternoon. I also see and join all the people who bring their dogs to frolic in the park while they catch up on the latest neighborhood happenings. It gives me a great sense of pride in my neighborhood every time I see this park being used in whatever capacity.
I hope that this slide will be replaced. I would also like to request that our little park receive some attention. Just a couple of new benches, a new slide, maybe more swings and hopefully one more piece of equipment for the children. I am always in awe when I see other parks in Newton that are in better condition and have more facilities being updated. We don't want a fancy park/playground. We can go to Webster Street or Derby Street for that. Just spruce up our little park so that we can continue to enjoy this treasure.
I am enclosing a list of signatures of residents who share the same feelings. If there is anything that I can do to further this effort please let me know.
Sincerely,
Ronda H. Andrews
