Wellington Park was selected recently by the USOC (U.S. Olympic Committee) to be the training site for the demonstration sport, "Kong Throw" at the Sydney Olympic Games.
Those who walk elephants in the park are kindly reminded to pick up after their pets. Wheelbarrows are provided at each of the entrances for your convenience in removing dung from the park.
The Wellington basketball court will be used during next year's season by the Boston Celtics for practice sessions. They found that they missed the odd bounces off the old parquet floor and the multiple cracks in the Wellington Court provided the closest simulation to the "feel" of their old court.
McDonald's Corporation has decided to assume responsibility for the new play structure. It will now be an indoor structure within the McDonalds restaurant to be built on the site of the current swings. They also agreed to paint all the fences red and yellow to match.
The city has agreed to dig out the northeast corner of the park and build a natural lagoon there for boating, jetskis, and other watersports. They found since the water table was already so high, they did not have to dig down very far.
A small T bar ski lift will be installed at the northwest entrance to assist those skiers who utilize the slope there in the wintertime.
